Lympsham Women's Institute

Lympsham WI was formed in 1939 and membership has been strong throughout the years.  Currently our membership is 33.  We meet on a monthly basis in the Manor Hall on the third Tuesday of the month. Our meetings commence at 7.30pm.  We have a varied and interesting programme of speakers as well as going on visits and attending other local WI functions.  We play skittles (County and friendly matches), have croquet contests in the village, play Kurling and go on walks throughout the village and farther afield.  We go to the theatre, have coffee and tea parties and support many village events (especially making cakes!).  We also have craft days and go carol singing around the Village each December raising money for a worthwhile cause.

We are a friendly group and welcome new members.  If you would like to come along to one of our meetings to see what we do please feel free to do so.  A poster giving details of our monthly speaker is always available on the Village Notice Board or if you would like a copy of our current Programme please contact me.

Lympsham WI's 2017 Croquet Tournament - a great day with some nail biting moments! Liz Hart won the singles & Ann Tincknell with Angela York won the doubles.
Cream Teas at the President's bungalow: a very successful afternoon and approximately £300 raised for WI funds that will support good speakers for future meetings. Thanks to everyone who supported this event.
Members of Lympsham WI & friends had an enjoyable visit to the Houses of Parliament in July & were joined by James Heappey MP on the terrace. Many thanks to Eileen Male for organising the trip.

WI Croquet tournament, 5th July 2016

Providing the weather is reasonable, there will be a 'Croquet Taster session' this Tuesday (12th July) at Lympsham Pavilion between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. should anyone like to have a go.

We have just held our Group meeting at the Manor Hall where 70 WI members from the Knoll Group had a very enjoyable evening.  Our Speaker was Sarah Harris from Clevedon speaking about her life “on the farm”.  Sarah was a laugh a minute and we so enjoyed listening to her.  After supper we were entertained by Steve Foti and the Wingettes.  A superb musical reminder for all ages.  Steve and his backing group (Barbara and Angela) played and sang all the rock and roll songs that we were familiar with.  I am sure we shall be booking them again.  The whole evening was great and went with a real “swing” and we thank our Speaker and entertainers for a superb time.

In September we listened to an interesting talk by a team from the Air Ambulance.  Slides were shown and some of the jobs they have to attend are very challenging.  Sharon Reid came along in October and we had great fun making sugar paste Halloween figures.  I’m afraid mine looked more like a clown than a witch!!  We are now looking forward to making a Christmas wreath with Cindy Tratt at our November meeting.  Our Christmas Party will be held at the Manor Hall on Tuesday, 18th December when I am sure there will be much fun and merriment.

We have played our first game of skittles in the County League and won by 30 pins.  Hooray.  We now have a bye so our next game will be in the New Year.  We also had a friendly game with Banwell WI at the Pavilion which was very successful and we are having a return match with them at Winscombe on the 27th November.

Christmas is fast approaching and we have various events taking place.  The first is our stall at the Christmas Fair which takes place at the Pavilion on 24th November.  Do come and take a look at what we have to sell and also have a chat.

On Friday, 7th December some of us will be attending the Group Carol Service at West Huntspill and on Wednesday, 12th December we go to Wells Cathedral for the annual SFWI Carol Service.  This is always a wonderful Christmas event.  Mini bus leaves the Pavilion at 10.30am.

We will be Carol Singing around the village again this year on Wednesday, 19th December.  We will start at the Pavilion at 7pm and will visit various locations in the village.   Should you want us to make a specific call on your home/location please contact Eileen (phone number below).  Please support us and join in with us if you can (bring a lantern or torch).  This year we will be raising money for Weston Hospice.

As you can see from the above we have a varied and interesting selection of meetings. We meet on the third Tuesday of the month in the Manor Hall at 7.30pm.  If you would like to come along and join us please feel free to do so.  We look forward to seeing you.

Wishing you all A Very Happy Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2019.
